Uniting AEA’s IAFC with ATRI’s Symposium, the International Aquatic Fitness & Therapy Conference allows you to customize the week of training to suit your needs – therapy, fitness, or both. Here is a highlight of one of the fitness-focused sessions being offered at IAFTC 2023 in Orlando, Florida (April 30-May 5) from Author Andrea Gilardoni. |
Aquafusion is an extremely flexible and diversified interval training format that can address many different goals. For example, you might choose energy system training targeting a specific system each session. Technical and functional training can focus on the performance of high-intensity activities that require the control of posture against the resistance of the water. Or, possibly, you choose to include muscular-focused training in the active recovery phase to target specific body segments. Some key points and benefits of this format include: – A dynamic format that continuously alternates between short duration training segments – Adaptability to each participant; during the higher intensity phase, one can adjust according to their skills or needs – Altered perception of fatigue during training. This can motivate individuals who are typically not inclined participate in aquatic fitness programming – Simplicity. The sequences must be intense and should not distract the student’s attention from achieving the cardiovascular goal – Use of small equipment in the active recovery phases. Allows training options and variety – Flexibility of the format can satisfy all levels, from athletes to senior Below is an example of a workout segment with an aerobic goal. It is structured with three minutes of cardiovascular and one and a half minutes of active recovery. It would then be repeated with the other arm. |
