1-1.45pm – Welcome and Industry Update Dom and Claire
Conference organisers Claire Barker-Hemings and Dom Gili share the Aquatic industry’s latest news with guest speakers from leading Fitness organisations and updates on the imminent release of the new skill set for Aqua Fitness Certification in Australia and what that means for the industry.
2-245pm – Brooke Crisp – Unique Isolation
This concept was designed to improve the strength on your non-dominant side. Most people tend to favour one side of the body and it could be for several reasons. This session will explore the benefits to working one side of the body as well as exercise ideas using different aquatic equipment and fun ways to make your class comfortable isolating their non-dominant side.
Brooke Crisp has been in the fitness industry for over 10 years and has a passion for all things water fitness. She has presented Aqua Sessions both nationally and locally and is a well-loved instructor and mentor in Canberra. In her 10 years she has travelled to many conferences and expanded her love for the Aqua industry. She specialises in High intensity aqua as well as running a rehabilitation program here in Canberra.
3-345pm – Debi Godfrey – The Liquid Barre
By thinking outside the box and using the edge of the pool as a training tool, you can deliver an awesome aqua fitness workout. This dynamic workout will bring principles of a ballet barre workout combined with upper body strength to the multi-dimensional challenges that water offers. Please join me as we take our Aqua Workout to another level.
Debi Godfrey is an Aqua Fitness Professional who instructs classes in Sydney and New South Wales Central Coast. Debi developed the Liquid Barre series of workshops, and has presented them at FILEX, and various conferences in Australia and South Africa.
4-445pm – Lianne Tiemens – KIS your HIIT
The KIS principle (“Keep It Simple”) states that most systems work best if kept simple. Simplicity is key when transforming land HIIT workouts to the pool. In this virtual session you’ll not only experience different water adapted HIIT formats, e.g. EMOM, AMRAP and IGOUGO, together we’ll also explore these workouts and find out what works, why the order of the exercises matters, how to instruct these formats and more.
Lianne Tiemens is a Group Fitness Leader, PT and Aqua Presenter. A passionate, motivating and in-demand instructor and mentor at leading gyms and aquatic centres across Sydney. She specialises in land- and water-based group HIIT workouts. Lianne’s workouts are creative, professional and aim to facilitate real-life connections. In 2019 she presented at FILEX, was nominated 2019 NSW/ACT AUSTSWIM Aqua Instructor of the Year and she received the 2019 Q3 National Group Fitness Instructor of the Quarter Award by Fitness First Australia.
Sunday Sessions – 8am-12pm
8.15-9.15 – Haylley Pittam – Beyond the Pregnancy
The mothers in your community are your Ante and post-natal clients and they need your support to stay fit, healthy and recover post birth. This is a specialism that can mix in with your everyday aquatic classes, exclusive classes or train as 1:1.
This workshop covers the anatomy and changes of the body, the pelvis and the pelvic floor muscles during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. We want to look beyond the pregnancy and how the new mother is affected mind, body and spirit and how the water offers an amazing place to retrain and rehab post birth. We will take this knowledge to the pool and learn how to cater for the ante and post-natal client.
Haylley Pittam is a highly experienced personal trainer, aquatic fitness instructor, swimming coach and GP referral consultant. Highly qualified, her main areas of focus include Pre & Post Natal, Pelvic Care, and Stroke therapy. She teaches both swimming and aqua aerobics to elite and recreational athletes. Haylley has written and delivered specialist workshops, accredited by CIMSPA around the UK and internationally.
9.30-10.30am – Ruth Sova – Ai Chi
Ai Chi is a water exercise and relaxation program that has been created to help aquatic practitioners and students enjoy the water in a flowing yet powerful progression. Aquatic exercise instructors, personal trainers, and aquatic therapy and rehabilitation practitioners will find the Ai Chi workshop beneficial for them and their clients. It is an efficient exercise program that increases oxygen and caloric consumption simply with correct form and positioning in the water, it is a perfect relaxation technique for highly stressed, over-challenged clients, and it is ideal for creating improved range of motion, balance and mobility. Ai Chi, created by combining Tai-Chi concepts with Shiatsu and Watsu techniques, is performed standing in shoulder depth water using a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad movements of the arms, legs, and torso.
Ruth Sova is an internationally recognised leader in the health and fitness industry, dedicated to the growth and betterment of the industry through her tireless research and development efforts. In 1994, Ruth founded the Aquatic Therapy and Rehab Institute, Inc. (ATRI) a non-profit educational organisation dedicated to the professional development of health care professionals involved with aquatic therapy. 10.45-11.45am – Ian O’Dwyer – The Fluid Response of Tissues with Laughter and Water
Understanding what tissues are affected when we move is critical no matter what environment; pool or land. This allows us to change tissues in the human being to create the optimal experience. Also acknowledging the emotional, mental and physical connection is paramount to permit people to move, feel and live better.
This session will look at tissue response, what is required and how do we incorporate drills/challenges to allow the water to create the freedom and ease of motion for many types of clients.
Ian O’Dwyer has over 25 years in the Health and Fitness Industry as a Sports Conditioner and Coach, Personal Trainer, Body Worker, International educator, Presenter and Mentor. He owns and runs OD on Movement Performance Studio, consulted and educated for PT on the Net, Co-Founded PTA Global and is now Co-Founder of SOMA along with great friend and long-time colleague Rodney Corn.
